The first days of the COVID-19 lockdown brought absolute chaos to our home, and we had to adapt to the quickly changing reality. There we were, at home, stuck with little ones. We had a lot of time with them as the days passed by slowly..
Our belongings were repurposed for forts, space stations, dark caves, and quiet reading retreats. We loved the collaboration, the imagination, and the freedom of it all, but we struggled so much with the mess and additional time spent cleaning up.
When the kids began building fortresses and pirate ships from our beloved designer couch, and we soon found out that it suffered too much, we realized that something had to change. The furniture at our small apartment, wasn't creating the right space for our kids and we needed something versatile that will grow with our children.
We needed to create a playful and safe space where children could avoid too much screen time and use their imagination instead. We craved guilt-free time to relax with a cup of a tasteful, warm coffee break or to jump on a call at work without muting ourselves out all the time.
That's when we discovered the concept of foam furniture. However, none of the existing products met our high-quality standards, so we decided to create our very own play sofa.
We wanted to create our play couch here in Europe, where we could keep high-quality standards, use only the best materials from a trusted source, and benefit from the knowledge and long tradition of furniture manufacturing. We spent numerous hours researching and creating prototypes, and our kids were the best beta-testers we could ever imagine hiring for this gig.
They played around with different shapes, jumped around on different cushions, and were allowed what they do best - making stains on numerous materials.
This is how our Shappy was born. Something we’ve built together as a family under really demanding circumstances. A safe place for children, somewhere to play, ignite the imagination, relax, connect, and sleep.
Today, we not only design every piece of furniture we create, but also oversee the entirety of its production process from cutting the fabric and sewing it to stuffing the foam in and packaging products for expedition..
